While shopping overseas, has a merchant ever asked you if you would like to convert your Credit or Debit Card transaction from the local currency into your home currency or while withdrawing cash from an ATM, were you ever prompted to choose home currency over local currency? This is called Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC).
 
Here's how you can make an informed choice and avoid paying extra charges:
 
At a store
  
At the payment counter, the executive may offer two choices:
 
1)To pay in the local currency
2)To pay in the home currency
  
 To avoid DCC charges, choose To pay in local currency
 
  
 
At an ATM
  
If you choose to withdraw cash from an ATM through your Credit or Debit Card, you will get options such as:
Case 1:
 
1)Accept without currency conversion
2)Accept with currency conversion
 To avoid DCC charges, choose 'Accept without currency conversion'
Case 2: Conversion to home currency.

2)No
