There is a new kind of fraud becoming prevalent!

SMS spoofing using malware
targeting UPI apps
Dear Saurabh Srivastava,

Cyber criminals are targeting UPI applications using malware.
The method followed by the fraudsters:
Cyber criminals create custom SMS forwarding apps which forward the UPI device binding message to a virtual mobile number (VMN) belonging to the victim’s bank, for registration
Fraudsters send links to malicious 'apk' files to potential victims through WhatsApp
Subsequently a UPI application registration process is initiated by the fraudster.
Remain vigilant and ensure that you do not install any suspicious/malicious application in your mobile device from untrustworthy sources. Please note that ICICI Bank never sends any SMS/WhatsApp message to its customers, asking them to call a particular mobile number or download any application.
Follow these security best practices at all times:
Update your mobile device with the latest operating system and security patches
Install applications only from official and trusted sources
(like Google Play Store and Apple App Store)
Install antivirus/security software from a trusted provider and update it regularly
Verify the permissions of the application before allowing access
Never click on suspicious links in emails or messages
Avoid downloading/installing unknown applications
Never share your confidential information like OTP, Password, PIN and card number with anyone.
To know more, call us on 1800 1080

Sincerely,
Team ICICI Bank

Link your Aadhaar with PAN by Mar 31, 2023

ICICI Bank

Dear Customer,

With regards to your account(s) held with ICICI Bank Limited (“ICICI Bank”). As per Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act (“Act”), 1961 and in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (“Guidelines”), dated Jun 27, 2017 and Mar 31, 2021, it is mandatory to link your Permanent Account Number (“PAN”) with your Aadhaar number. The last date to link the same is Mar 31, 2023.

As per the information received from National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) by ICICI Bank, your Aadhaar number and PAN are not linked as on Jan 15, 2023. As per the Guidelines and Act, if not linked by Mar 31, 2023, the PAN provided by you will become inoperative and will be de-mapped from your account. Failure to link the same will also attract a higher Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) rate on the interest earned and might also impact certain bank transactions, where the PAN is considered. TDS once deducted, cannot be refunded by the Bank under any circumstances.

Also, Form 15G/H exemption submitted for the current financial year shall be revoked and a fresh Form 15G/H shall have to be submitted, post completion of the PAN - Aadhaar Linkage.

To check the status of the linkage of your PAN with Aadhaar, visit: Click here
