Dear Customer, KYC (Know Your Customer) is a regulatory process that helps banks verify the customer’s identity through valid documents such as Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Driving Licence etc. Fraudsters often imitate bank officials and contact customers and trick them into sharing confidential details or installing malicious apps.

Fraudsters create urgency by saying:   •   Your account will be blocked today   •   Your KYC has expired   •   Update KYC immediately to avoid account freeze

Common tactics used by fraudsters:   •   Asking for OTP, PIN, CVV or Net Banking password   •   Sending links to fake websites/apps that resemble bank websites/apps   •   Asking customers to download screen-sharing apps   •   Requesting customers to scan QR codes for verification   •   Sending fake RBI or bank notices

How to stay protected:   •   Be aware that banks never ask for confidential information over phone, SMS or e-mail   •   Do not share your OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone, even if the caller claims to be a bank official   •   Avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links and downloading unknown apps   •   Verify your KYC status only through an official bank branch or the official website/app of your bank   •   Enable SMS/e-mail alerts for all transactions

Report:   •   Report online fraud on the National Cyber Crime portal at cybercrime.gov.in or call on the helpline number 1930 .
