Protect yourself from fake travel agency scams

ICICI Bank
Stay Alert, Stay Protected

Verify before you pay

Dear Saurabh Kumar Ray,

Instances of fraudulent travel agencies and fake websites offering attractive holiday packages, travel memberships and discounted international holiday bookings have been reported. Customers are asked to make advance payments; however, post-payment, it is discovered that the website is unauthorised and no valid booking exists.

Such scams often involve professionally designed websites, fake reviews and time-bound offers intended to create urgency and prompt immediate transactions. In certain cases, individuals may also pose as authorised representatives and collect payment through Point of Sale (POS) machines.

Why should you exercise caution?

Fraudsters may request payment through your Credit Card using POS machines or external payment links. Once processed, recovery of funds may be challenging.

How to stay protected?
Avoid transacting on unfamiliar websites or links shared via SMS, WhatsApp or social media

Use recognised reputable booking platforms

Do not rely solely on in-person representatives or individuals without independently validating the organisation.

Report Fraud:

If you are a victim of online fraud, reach out to the National Cyber Crime portal at cybercrime.gov.in , call the helpline on 1930 or call ICICI Bank helpline on 1800 2662.

1.Do NOT click on any links received from an unknown person.

2.Do NOT share any confidential / sensitive information with anyone.

If you receive any suspicious SMS, e-mail or call, please report it to Sanchar Saathi at sancharsaathi.gov.in/ and to ICICI Bank at antiphishing@icicibank.com
