AI Voice Cloning Scams: What You Need to Know   Know More

Cyber criminals impersonate trusted individuals or institutions over phone calls to steal money or sensitive information. Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and audio clips available online, fraudsters replicate a trusted person’s voice with alarming accuracy.

How fraudsters pull off AI voice cloning scam:   •   They claim emergencies such as arrest, kidnapping, accident, blocked account or pending payments   •   Calls are often urgent , emotional or threatening to pressurise victims into acting quickly   •   They discourage verification and demand instant action   •   Victims are asked to share OTPs (One-Time Passwords), card details, account information or to transfer money .

How to stay alert:   •   Always verify with a known number: Call the relative or organisation using a known or trusted number before taking any action   •   Don’t rush: Stay calm during urgent calls; fraudsters rely on panic   •   Set a family ‘safe code’: A simple phrase known only to close family members can help confirm whether the caller is genuine   •   Never share sensitive information: Bank and government authorities never ask for OTPs, PINs or passwords.
