Debit Card Phishing Awareness

What is
Phishing
and how to avoid it?

Dear Saurabh Kumar Agarwal,

Phishing is an attack that attempts to steal your money or your identity by getting you to reveal personal information -- such as personal banking details, Debit Card numbers, PIN or Passwords -- on websites that pretend to be legitimate.

DON'T send passwords, PIN, User ID or any sensitive information over an e-mail

DON'T click on 'verify your account' or 'login' links in any e-mail. Instead, always open a new window and use the institution's official home page to log into any Account

DON'T reply, click on links or open attachments in SPAM or suspicious e-mails. Clicking a link or replying to a SPAM can verify your e-mail ID and encourage more such attempts in the future. Instead, delete it immediately to prevent yourself from accidentally opening the message in the future.

DO report impersonated or suspect e-mails

DO exercise caution while opening attachments, even from trusted senders

DO install antivirus and firewall programmes

DO check financial statements and credit/debit reports regularly.
