Take precaution against online fraud

Greetings from ICICI Bank.

Stay alert and avoid falling into the trap of fraudsters. Take the necessary steps to avoid online scams. Read on to know how the scammers function.
How do fraudsters operate?
Fraudster connects with you in the context of online product purchase, tax credit, cashback, refund on online transactions, KYC check, SIM upgrade, online lottery, asking help through social networking. They use following channels to capture your sensitive data.
1.Smishing – Customer receives an SMS in any of above contexts and asks to share your confidential details such as Grid card details, ATM Card PIN, UPI PIN, Debit Card number and CVV.
 
2.Juice Jacking – Fraudster instals malware/spyware using chip embedded in public charging spots. This chip copies your sensitive data and instals malware in your smartphone, whenever connected.
 
3.Vishing – Caller asks for transaction banking details such OTPs, user ID, delivered on your registered mobile number. Forwards activation SMS which is later used to gain access of your account.
 
4.Remote assistance – Caller asks to install system assistance software such as teamviewer, quick support further gaining access on smartphone.
 
5.Phishing – Fraudster sends you link which asks you to share your confidential details such as Grid card details, ATM Card PIN, UPI PIN, Debit Card number and CVV.
 
 
Steps to prevent fraud
 
Avoid using public charging stations such as airport. Always carry your charging adapter or power bank.
 
Never enter your UPI MPIN if unaware of the transaction.
 
Never instal assistance software on your smartphone and allow anyone to access your mobile remotely.
 
Never share your OTP, URN, CVV or passwords with anyone even if the person claims to be a bank employee.
